Geodesy is concerned with mapping the shape of the Earth to the benefit of all branches of Earth sciences. Geodesy provides the foundation for all Earth observations as well as crucial observations of changes in the Earth's geometry, gravity field, and rotation.

Geodesy provides the basis for precise georeferencing and navigation, and for supporting numerous processes in a modern society. It is of vital importance in determining sea-level change, studying the water cycle, mass transport, assessment of geohazards and contribution to early warning systems for such hazard. |
